Newsletter February 2014

Dear friends,

Since we visited England in October there have been a number of developments we would like to share with you. God works!

AIM membership

In October last year we visited England for a final interview with the Director of AIM (Africa Inland Mission) Europe, the Personnel Director and his colleague. It was a very positive and encouraging interview, after which we were told we are accepted into membership. This is an important milestone for us. Being a member of AIM means being part of an organisation with over a hundred years of experience in missionary work in Africa.

Assignment Options

At the beginning of this month we have had frequent contact with the Personnel Director regarding assignment options. We received information about projects in four different countries: Kenya, Madagascar, Namibia and Mozambique. We have discussed the various options, and especially whether the projects would be suitable for us (and vice versa!). We have to think through questions such as whether it is feasible to go to a certain destination with a family; can we serve there with the capabilities we have; can we effectively reach people with the gospel? One of the projects seemed to be a good match. We asked for some more information, but learned all places were already filled. Obviously that was quite disappointing.

This week however we received information about a similar project in Madagascar and we expect information on other options shortly. The option in Madagascar involves working amongst a predominantly animistic people group, which means they worship ancestors and / of believe in nature spirits. In this worldview people are ruled by fear of what the spirits might do to them. Witch doctors have much influence, with often detrimental effect. The liberating news of Jesus Christ is much needed there. As you see we have a lot to think and pray about in the time to come. Will you please uplift us in your prayers and ask the Lord for his guidance?

Orientation

We are now headed for England in April. We hope to attend the Europe Based Orientation, a compulsory preparation for serving with AIM. The programme is a mix of informative sessions, food and fellowship. Among other things we expect to learn about the big picture of AIM, personal security, spiritual warfare, how to keep spiritually fit and dealing with stress and cultural issues.

Alongside the programme for adults, there is a special programme for children. A children's worker will help the children in their steps to Africa. We are very content that there is special care and consideration for the children.

Many blessings,

Jurgen, Katja, Vanya, Issa, Abbey & Dani Hofmann
